I bought an 8gb memory kit from crucial specific for my laptop model. I put the RAM in the memory slots, but when I went to the control panel, system tab it still says I only have 4gb of RAM.
Active ram slot(s) vary from manufacture to manufacture and even from board to board; slot configuration to use are usually indicated the MBs manual.Trying another slot will usually work fine in a single slot config for most systems, it's dual channel that things can get hairy.
SOLVED The 2nd slot was not seating the new stick properly. The old ram seated with out a problem but the new ram didn't quite make contact (about 8 times in a row!!). I finally noticed and did a little judicious pushing and it seated and I've my full 2gig. Installed both my evga 8800gt cards, my ram and q6600 and the second 8800gt card is not recognized. When I take out the first 8800gt card and leave the second one in the second pcie slot it does not show video.
